The German green hydrogen production company HH2E AG has become a member of the aviation initiative aireg (Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany). HH2E’s unique technology mix is capable of converting surplus electricity from wind and solar energy into green hydrogen, maximizing the use of curtailed power to transforming these otherwise lost green electrons into a powerful force for the production of green hydrogen. This green hydrogen can be used for the production of eSAF (electronic Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
By 2030, HH2E aims to have installed 4GW of production capacity for green hydrogen in Germany. Two production projects are already in advanced stage of development, the HH2E-Werk Lubmin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the HH2E-Werk Thierbach, near Leipzig, Saxony.
In collaboration with aireg members DHL Group and Sasol, HH2E has recently signed an agreement focused on establishing potential production capacities for sustainable aviation fuels based on green hydrogen (eSAF) at a suitable location in Eastern Germany. This initiative aims to position Germany as a leader in the decarbonisation of aviation. The initial production of the facility is expected to be at least 200,000 tonnes of eSAF per year, with the potential to scale up to 500,000 tonnes per year.
Alexander Voigt, CEO of HH2E, elucidated the significance of becoming part of aireg by stating, “By leading the development and production of eSAF, Germany is not only ensuring its access to the vital sustainable fuels necessary for the aviation industry’s future but is also substantially mitigating CO2 emissions linked to air travel domestically. “Our decision to join aireg is driven by our acknowledgment of their exceptional commitment and dedication to enhancing the production and use of renewable aviation fuels in Germany. This aligns us with like-minded partners who are equally devoted to advancing a more sustainable energy sector.”
Melanie Form, managing director and member of the aireg board, commented on the membership: “I am delighted to welcome HH2E as a new member to our initiative. The collaborative project with our members DHL Group and Sasol underscores Germany’s central role as a production location for SAF and will significantly contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in air travel.”
About HH2E
HH2E is a new green energy company in Germany founded to bring about immediate change. Its technology mix can convert a variable input of solar or wind energy into a constant flow of competitively priced green hydrogen, heat and carbon-free electricity to power local industries and communities. In 2022 it agreed a financing deal with institutional investors to develop a platform of sites in Germany, aiming for a total of 4 GW capacity by 2030. The company is poised to become one of the largest producers of green hydrogen in Germany. Learn more about the company, technology, projects and career opportunities at www.hh2e.com
