HH2E and BORSIG Announce Partnership to Advance Green Hydrogen Production in Germany
Berlin, 4 July 2024 – In a significant move towards advancing the energy transition in Germany, BORSIG ZM Compression GmbH (BZM) and HH2E AG have agreed on a long-term partnership for the design and delivery of integrally geared turbo compressors and reciprocating compressors, critical equipment for establishing a green hydrogen production unit.
The agreement commences with BZM designing and delivering two compressor units capable of handling a 200 MW electrolysis plant. The delivery of the machinery is scheduled for 2025. Both companies have also agreed to support each other in future projects.
HH2E is finalising decisions related to all critical elements for declaring the Final Investment Decision (FID) for its first large-scale green hydrogen production units, located in Lubmin, on the Baltic coast of Germany. The procurement of key machinery, such as advanced equipment for compressing hydrogen for delivery, is one such critical element.
This collaboration was recently formalised at the BORSIG headquarters in Berlin, attended by Dr Ina Hahndorf, Head of Project Coordination, HH2E, and Karsten Kinzig, Head of Purchasing, HH2E. Representing BORSIG were Jürgen Stegger, Managing Director of BORSIG GmbH, Andi Ziermann, Managing Director of BORSIG ZM Compression GmbH, and Martin Homann, Sales Director of BORSIG ZM Compression GmbH.
The cooperation agreement between BZM and HH2E entails close collaboration in the field of green hydrogen production and utilisation.
Both parties have committed to ongoing discussions regarding HH2E’s requirements for turbo compressors and reciprocating compressors over the coming years, supporting each other in future projects.
Dr Ina Hahndorf expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We aim to build the first of our green hydrogen production units as quickly as possible, as hydrogen is vital to achieving a comprehensive energy transition, contributing to significant CO2 reduction and providing a sustainable energy supply to German industries. BORSIG can help us achieve that.”
Martin Homann added: “The combination of BORSIG’s extensive experience and innovative strength with HH2E’s dynamism and expertise will enable us to successfully implement pioneering projects in the field of green hydrogen.”
